What does Marnin Bowa Dumbara Family Healing Centre Do?

The Derby based Family Healing Centre is a crisis accommodation service that offers support and advocacy to women and children who are escaping from family domestic violence. It is an essential support service for victims of family and domestic violence in the township of Derby and surrounding communities. The centre helps individuals and families to create a strong and sustainable future through active and integrated client support management. This includes coordination of services, community linkages, advocacy, referral, as well as practical assistance to access other vital support services.

Our Purpose

We exist because no woman or child should face violence, fear, or homelessness alone. Family and domestic violence is a crisis that impacts families and communities across Derby and the West Kimberley.

MBDAC’s purpose is to break the cycle of violence and disadvantage by providing safety, dignity, and pathways to long-term healing. We do this because every family deserves the chance to live free from harm, to rebuild stability, and to thrive within community.

At our core, we are here to:

  • Provide safety and protection when families are most at risk.
  • Restore hope by walking alongside families as they recover from trauma.
  • Strengthen community resilience so future generations can grow in safe, supportive environments.

Our purpose is not only to respond to crisis — it is to change futures, creating stronger families and a safer community for all.

Who do we help?

MBDAC supports:

Women and children escaping immediate or ongoing threats of family and domestic violence, providing them with safety, protection, and advocacy.

Young people from 16 years and older who are experiencing crisis and require safe accommodation, guidance, and connection to support networks.

Families and individuals who need assistance navigating referral pathways, helping them identify and access alternative support measures that meet their needs.

Our focus is on those most vulnerable to harm, ensuring they are not left to face crisis alone, but are supported to find safety, stability, and hope for the future.
